The Drums - Down By The Water

The internet tells me that this video is inspired by girl groups from the 50's and 60's, which it totally is as long as you take away the choreographer, stylish outfits, and add "do heroine" to the pre-shoot rundown. Lawlz..., but really now, if A&E docs have taught me anything it seems that The Drums have achingly captured what the great girl groups were feeling on the inside underneath all the "glamor" that was projected to the TV audiences. On the surface it may have seemed all white teeth and big hair do's, but many (if not all) faced harsh sexism, jealous male abuse both physically and emotionally to the extremes, and never received true recognition for their talents as opposed to their eye candy appeal. So The Drums approach seems to be to show what was being felt on the inside and put it on the outside - numb and robotic-ally going through the motions. A sad and tender video. Enjoy.
